Mercato Market

On the last day of our expedition, Selamneh brought us to the famous Marceto Market. Its the largest open air Market in Africa they say and its pretty famous.... There are many vendors with just about ANYTHING..... Selamneh suggested though that we do not buy anything and just take in the experience so that's what we did.... We had already bought everything we wanted so we didn't bring any money and only one of us brought cameras as they told us that it was very easy to be pick pocketed at the Mercato !

I really enjoyed the experience, it was a little scary at first as its REALLY big and REALLY crowded and I would not have wanted to go by myself but Selamneh was again AWSOME and told us where to go and where not to go and showed us lots of neat things !

Here we are in front of a spice booth (the red stuff is the famous Berbere spice that Ethiopians cook lots of their meals with !

Here is an alley of the market, pictures are not allowed to be taken I guess in this part of the market so we had to be in the pictures and well as you can see Julie is way way way on the right side... Selamneh would take the picture and take it really off and pretend that he was not used to taking pictures (so we could have these shots), it was very very funny, we laughed so much whenever he would do this !!!

Here we are inside one of the tents and the big yellow mountains are all BUTTER ! This is how the sold the butter, you would ask for a piece and they would cut it from the big pills of butter that they had.

Another picture of the butter, I really found it amazing, the pictures don't really do it justice !

Here is Selamneh buying us some Sugar cane... If you are travelling to Ethiopia hopefully you will be able to try Sugar cane, it was SOOO good ! Ask someone to show you how to eat it though .....
